When you hear many people wasting water, More so when waiting for your hot water to come though the pipes. I for one also complain about the waiting time it takes for my water unit & the time it takes to heat up the water. It's extra money you pay/waste on your water bills every year.

It almost feel like the water company & those companies who make these water heating units for the home are in "cahoots" to steal your money. I work, but with everyone feeling the pinch we need to save every bit we can. Don't give your money to these companies who rob us.

In the winter months I alone, use to waste at least 4 to 8 litres of freezing cold water every morning waiting for the hot water to reach the taps. This only happened for the first couple months I moved in to my home.

Here is what I do now.

Get yourself at least 3 or 4 used (washed clean) 4 litre milk containers (but anything will do that holds water) & simply hold an empty 4 litre plastic container under the hot water tap until the water gets warm enough to use. People usually run the water down the drainage plughole until the water is hot, or warm at least. So for me alone between 4 to 8 litres or more was being wasted each day.

The waste cold water can be used for so many things. To name a couple: Use the water to water plants, water the Lawn, wash windows, your car or scrub down your pathway.

Don't just let it run down the sink. It's costing you money & the water company are laughing at you while stealing your money. And of course if you are going to be watering plants let the cold water stand for an hour or two in doors so not to shock your plants when watering.

We also have 2 huge water barrels outside with a tap on each. So get filling up if you have one or more for those summer months when hose-pipe bans come into force to keep the plants and Lawn nice.

See it as free summer time water for the garden, your vehicles and even washing down the windows or pathways.

Kat knows I'm only joking Slim, I save water as much as possible even before all this hot weather. Brushing my teeth, I wet the tooth brush (turn off the tap) apply tooth paste and only use more water to rise my brush and mouth after.

My parents always fill plastic containers and pour into the water container out in the garden to water the plants, grass. On breakfast TV they claim a new toilet system uses 8 litres of water and a old system uses 12 litres so stop flushing the loo so much. You could save all that cold water to use flush your toilet waste away. Or dig a deep hole in the back garden and wait till after dark to use the outside toilet.

What the water companies forget to tell you, Is how much water they lose of a year because of leaks, burst water mains that they turn a blind-eye too, but we are forced to pick up the debt via our bills.

I have started saving water, no I'm not tight but just cutting back on wasting water. I throw away about 12 litres of waste water every day from my dog alone. He's a large dog and in the summer I change his water at least 3 - 4 times a day. I pop it into a bucket and now use it every evening to water the plants or pour it into a huge plastic water butt. And use when needed.

I use to pour this waste water down the toilet every day.

I am so pleased peeps are pulling together to save water now lets hope the water companies spend some profits and fix all the leaks (THIS YEAR) it makes me angry they waste so much water and bill us for it. Bad company management. They should put meters on the area where they have water leaks and bill the management from there yearly wages :p

Have a good day yawl rain showers on the way for wednesday must go dig out the shorts and soap ready for rain tomorrow
